While creating my final draft of the app, I gathered feedback on how I could drastically improve the overall experience of the app with visual cues and continuity. Because I was nearing a final product, I was focused primarily on making sure that the experience I created for users was as seamless as possible to keep their focus on accomplishing the primary functions of the app. To this end, I looked for ways to simplify significant tasks while also making the visual direction as minimalistic as possible. As Ricky Lyman, founder of ProtoMVP says, “great, minimalistic design is a process of subtraction to a product’s essential core”.
Users benefit from having simplified tasks and being shown which things to choose because every complication increases the time and reduces the likelihood that they will accomplish the tasks. For example, to make the venue and event pages more prominent on my app, I decreased the margins on the page to increase the page tiles and have them take up significantly more space. In addition, I added a grey background to the tile titles, providing a subtle cue of their relevancy to the above images while keeping the tile in a simplified box.
